Mr Vikraman N takes charge as Director (HR) of BEL

Bengaluru, June 1, 2023: Mr Vikraman N took charge as the Director (HR) of Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) today. He was serving as Executive Director (Radar) and Unit Head of BEL’s Ghaziabad Unit prior to his elevation to the Board.

Mr Vikraman has 35 years of vast, rich experience in handling various facets of HR and diverse functions such as Testing, Marketing and Customer Support in the field of Radars and Missile Systems. He holds a degree in Bachelors of Engineering (Honours) in Electronics & Communication and Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. He is a recipient of the prestigious Raksha Mantri’s Award for ‘Innovation’. He is also a certified Project Management Professional from Project Management Institute, USA.

As ED (Radar) and Unit Head, BEL-Ghaziabad, he steered the second biggest Unit of BEL to its highest ever turnover and profitability and was presented ‘Achiever’ Award at the annual Roll-on-Plan Business Meet of BEL.

Mr Vikraman has played a pivotal role in providing a strategic edge to the Human Resources function in BEL. During his previous tenure as General Manager (Human Resources) at BEL’s Corporate Office, Mr Vikraman was responsible for institutionalising HR policies and strategies in alignment with the business requirements of BEL. He established new systems and procedures in areas such as Manpower Planning, Performance Management, Training & Development, Competency Development, Skill Development, etc. He was responsible for introducing a comprehensive framework for various competencies for benchmarking performance standards and providing a more equitable method for career progression. Under his leadership, BEL received the certification for People Capability Maturity Model (Level 3).

Mr Vikraman has promoted an atmosphere conducive for learning within the company through the establishment of the BEL Academy for Excellence and fostering partnerships with both national and international academia. Some of his other major contributions to BEL in the field of HR include institutionalising ERP based Learning Management System for Talent Management, establishing Functional Competency Dictionary to build competencies required for different job roles, and introducing a blended e-learning platform to promote flexi-learning. He implemented changes in key HR processes to ensure safety of the workforce during the pandemic, thus ensuring business continuity.

In his previous assignment at BEL’s Missile Systems SBU, Mr Vikraman developed multi-disciplinary competencies in his team to handle system integration projects. He nurtured the culture change required for the organisation to migrate from the role of a Radar manufacturer to that of a Weapon System Integrator. During his tenure as Head of Testing, Marketing & Customer Support, the Missile Systems SBU achieved a record turnover of Rs. 1,000 Crores for four consecutive years. Mr Vikraman managed over 100 major stakeholders who were involved in the prestigious Akash project and successfully completed the realisation of the country’s first indigenous missile system.

BEL signs MoU with Motorola Solutions India Pvt Ltd

Bengaluru, Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has signed an MoU with Motorola Solutions India Pvt Ltd for co-operation in the field of broadband, push-to-talk service.

The MoU aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and Motorola. It will enable BEL and Motorola to address the needs of professional mobile radio segment users to connect their teams with greater speed and efficiency using Motorola WAVE PTX, a push-to-talk (PTT) service. WAVE PTX is a network independent multimedia communication service that instantly connects cross-functional teams at the push of a button without any boundaries.

BEL signs MoU with INERY, Singapore

Bengaluru, Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has signed an MoU with INERY, Singapore, for co-operation in the field of Blockchain Technology.

The objective of the MoU is to take advantage of the combined strengths and capabilities of INERY and BEL in the field of Blockchain technology. Integrating BEL’s complementary functionalities with INERY’s solutions will enhance product offerings of both the companies.

BEL wins ‘Urban Infra Business Award 2022’ for contributions to Metro and Rail transformation in India

Bengaluru/New Delhi, Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has been conferred the ‘Urban Infra Business Award 2022’ in recognition of its contributions, in line with the Government’s ‘Make in India initiative’, for the transformation of Metro and Rail commutation in India. BEL has been developing indigenous technologies for the implementation of Intelligent Transportation System in Metro and trains.

Mr Manoj Jain, Director (R&D), BEL, and Mr Anoop Kumar Rai, Chief Scientist (Central Research Laboratory-Ghaziabad), BEL, received the award, instituted by Urban Infra Communication Private Limited, from Mr M C Chauhan, former General Manager, Metro Rail, Kolkata, today at New Delhi.

BEL has since the last few years been a part of various Metro and Railway projects in India. It has, in collaboration with the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), completed the Real Time Information System (RTIS), which provides real- time train information to the Indian Railways, thereby increasing its operational efficiency, in addition to enhancing passenger safety. BEL has also automated various functionalities related to arrival and departure of trains.

In order to complete the various indigenous programmes in rail and metro commutation, an Intelligent Transportation Lab has been established as a reference set-up at BEL’s Central Research Laboratory-Ghaziabad with specialised Safety Integrity Level 4 compliant hardware.

Under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives of the Government, BEL along with Delhi Metro has completed various programmes such as Indigenous Automatic Train Supervision System (iATS), Super Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (Super SCADA) and Rolling Stock Driver Training System (RSDTS). BEL has also proactively taken up development work for Traction SCADA.

For the Indian Railways, BEL has signed an MoU with the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) for developing technology solutions such as Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), Centralised Intelligent Kavach Monitoring System (CIKMS), and Augmented Reality (AR) / Virtual Reality (VR) based Simulator.

BEL today has signed an MoU with DMRC for the development of indigenous Communication Based Train Control (i-CBTC) System.

BEL signs MoU with DMRC for joint development of Indigenous Communication-based Train Control System

Bengaluru/New Delhi, Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (DMRC) for jointly developing the Indigenous Communication-based Train Control System (i-CBTC), an important milestone in India’s journey towards self-reliance in Rail and Metro operations. i-CBTC, being indigenously developed for the first time in India, will enable unmanned operations of metro and trains. It is a big leap forward in the field of metro and rail automation and will give a boost to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ mission of the Government of India. The project is being carried out under the ambit of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India. The MoU aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and DMRC.

BEL signs MoU with Goa Shipyard Limited

Bengaluru, Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has signed an MoU with Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for joint development of products/solutions in the area of Autonomous Navigation and associated fields.

The MoU aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and GSL. It will enable BEL and GSL to jointly work towards development of products/solutions in the fields of autonomously navigated vessels and derivatives thereof, digital control and simulation of ships, networking of vessels and any other identified area for both Defence and civilian applications in domestic and international markets.

OFC Cable Assembly for BEL Radar indigenised under Make-II scheme

Bengaluru, Riddhi Infratel, a Ghaziabad-based cable manufacturing company has, as part of the Make-II initiative of Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), indigenised the OFC Cable Assembly used in the Air Defence Radar (AD TCR) of BEL for connection between the OPS and Radar Surveillance Vehicle (RSV) shelters.

The OFC Cable Assembly, which was so far being imported, has now been fully indigenised, successfully evaluated and qualified for applicable environmental standards by Riddhi Infratel. This line replaceable unit (LRU) is a part of the DPSUs’ second positive indigenisation list.

Make-II initiatives are aimed at replacing imported items with indigenous ones, thereby increasing the indigenous content in Defence equipment and reducing cost and delivery time.

For Riddhi Infratel, the task of indigenising the OFC Cable was not devoid of challenges. The company faced many logistic issues like non-availability / shortage of raw materials, rise in prices, dearth of staff and yet managed to complete the assembly production successfully within the stipulated timelines.

Bengaluru, Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has signed an MoU with Aerosense Technologies Pvt Ltd for co-operation in the development and marketing of Drones and Soft Kill Aerial Anti Drone.

The MoU aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and Aerosense Technologies Pvt Ltd. It will enable BEL and Aerosense Technologies Pvt Ltd to collaborate as partners for the design/development of drones and soft kill aerial anti drone systems. The MoU will also help the two companies explore marketing and sale of Drone-based solutions catering to various applications in Defence and civilian domains, for both domestic and export markets.
