MISSILE APPROACH WARNING SYSTEM (MAWS)

The Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS) is a passive system for airborne applications, used to sense the Ultra Violet (solar blind) part of emission from a missile exhaust plume. It will detect and declare oncoming missiles towards the aircraft, discriminate it against environmental clutter, indicate the threat information to the pilot through audiovisual indication and initiate adequate counter measures. The system logs all threat activity and pilot operations with time stamp. The system performs Built-In-Test (BIT) during power-ON, periodically during normal operation and on initiation by the operator.

The system communicates with on-board CMDS on RS-485 lines. The system can also receive GPS data from on-board GPS receiver on RS-422 lines.
