The Central Research Laboratory (CRL) serves as the nucleus of BEL’s research and development activities, spearheading efforts to innovate and develop cutting-edge technologies that meet the evolving requirements of India’s defense forces and other strategic sectors.

CRL’s focus spans both foundational and applied research, aiming to craft pioneering solutions that tackle complex challenges in defense and related fields. The lab’s breakthroughs significantly enrich BEL’s product offerings, bolstering its capability to provide high-performance, reliable, and cost-effective solutions to its customers. Beyond its technological contributions, CRL is instrumental in cultivating talent and fostering a culture of innovation within BEL, ensuring the company’s sustained leadership in defense electronics.

CRL is engaged in the development of state-of-the-art solutions across diverse domains including Secure Military Communications, RF and Microwave Systems, Radar and Signal Processing, Wireless Networks, Electronic Warfare, Cryptography and Cyber Security, Electro-optics and Photonics, Embedded and Smart Computing Systems, Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Autonomous and Unmanned Systems, Aerospace Technologies, and emerging fields such as Quantum Computing. Through indigenous design and development, CRL enables BEL to deliver mission-critical systems for the Indian Armed Forces and strategic sectors, supporting national objectives of technological self-reliance, defence modernization, and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Goals:

The primary goal of the Central Research Laboratory (CRL-Bg) is to establish Bharat Electronics as a fountainhead of electronics technology, thereby enhancing its leadership position within the Indian electronics industry and positioning it as a major international electronics company.

CRL serves as a technology window for BEL and provides technology-related solutions for BEL products.

Established in 1989 as BEL’s premier research center for futuristic defence and strategic technologies.
Expanded from modest beginnings into a state-of-the-art 17-acre R&D campus in Bengaluru.
Functions as a bridge between academic research and industrial product development through a unique quasi-academic model.
Collaborates with leading institutions such as IITs, IISc, and NITs for advanced research and technology development.
