MoD signs 2 contracts worth Rs.2,696 Cr with BEL for Indian Armed Forces

Bengaluru / New Delhi, March 30, 2023: The Ministry of Defence (MoD), Government of India, has signed two contracts worth Rs. 2,696 Cr with Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bangalore, to bolster the defence capabilities of the country:

a) LYNX U2 Fire Control Systems (13 Nos.) for Indian Navy for Rs 1,705 Crs is a Naval Gun Fire Control System designed to acquire, track and engage targets amidst sea clutter. The Gun Fire Control System has been designed with an open and scalable architecture, permitting simple and flexible implementation in many different configurations. The system has been developed, upgraded continuously with indigenisation as a major focus along with technology upgrades, and delivered to the Indian Navy. It has been in service for over two decades, satisfactorily meeting the tactical requirements of Indian Naval ships of various classes like destroyers, frigates, missile, boat, corvettes, etc. The system proposed in the contract is of the fourth generation and is a completely indigenised system, developed in the true spirit of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

b) Weapon Locating Radar (Swathi) (12 Nos.) for Indian Army for Rs 991 Crs has been primarily designed to locate hostile guns, mortars and rockets. In its secondary role it can track and observe the fall of shot from own weapons to provide corrections to own fire. Detection, Location and Tracking of the requisite targets is handled by the advanced algorithms and state-of-the-art hardware. The ability to locate enemy weapons from its first round and transmit the data of the required target to the counter fire elements for retaliatory strike before the target is redeployed is the key feature of the Radar. SWATHI is a joint development project undertaken by RADAR house LRDE (DRDO) and BEL to fulfill the requirement of the Indian Army.

These are flagship projects showcasing the indigenous design and manufacturing capabilities of Indian Defence industry led by BEL, involving other Public Sectors, Private Sectors and MSMEs. These projects will add another milestone to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan’ and ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government of India.

MoD signs 10 contracts worth Rs.5,498 Cr with BEL for Indian Armed Forces

Bengaluru/New Delhi, March 30, 2023: The Ministry of Defence (MoD), Government of India, has signed 10 contracts worth Rs.5,498 Crores with Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL):

Air Force Projects:

a) EW Suite Equipment for Medium Lift Helicopter (90 Nos.) has been signed with BEL-Bangalore. It is indigenously designed and developed by the DRDO lab, Combat Aircraft Systems Development & Integration Centre ( CASDIC). It comprises Radar Warning Receiver (RWR), Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS) and Counter Measure Dispensing System (CMDS) and will significantly enhance the combat-survivability of IAF helicopters while undertaking operational missions against adversaries — ground-based as well as airborne radars and heat-seeking, shoulder-fired missiles with effective countermeasures.

b) AMC for Akash Missile System has been signed for maintenance of two Squadrons with BEL-Bangalore. The Akash Missile System (AMS) is a medium- range, surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, developed by DRDO and manufactured by BEL. AMS includes Surveillance Radar, Fire Control Radar, Control and Command Centre developed by BEL. The Akash Missile system can target aircrafts up to 30 km away and has the capabilities to neutralise aerial threats like fighter jets, cruise missiles and Air-to-Surface Missiles. It is fully integrated with C4I and equipped with ECCM features.

ARMY PROJECTS:

a) Automated Air Defence Control & Reporting System (Project Akashteer) has been signed with BEL-Ghaziabad. It will enable monitoring of low-level airspace over the battle areas of Indian Army and effectively control the Ground-Based Air Defence Weapon Systems.

b) Instant Fire Detection and Suppressing System (IFDSS) for T 72 has been signed with BEL-Kotdwara. IFDSS is indigenously designed by DRDO and will be manufactured by BEL-Kotdwara.

NAVY PROJECTS:

a) Software Defined Radio (SDR) (1265 Nos.) – Portables for Indian Navy are latest state-of-the-art radios which have been indigenously developed, jointly by DEAL (DRDO) and BEL. The SDR portables are developed in three configurations viz. SDR Manpack, SDR Fixed Pack and SDR hand-held, to meet the specific operational requirements of the Indian Navy. SDR Portables are new generation software defined radio that supports multi band, multi-channel, multi role/ mission operation with voice/data to meet the needs of network-centric warfare of Indian Navy. These radios are feature rich compact radios which provides the flexibility of enhancing the performance by implementation of futuristic waveforms on the same hardware using software programmability.

b) HDVLF HF Receiver (1178 Nos.) is a communication equipment, designed to receive and demodulate Data/Voice in VLF and HF Band of operation in the ships and submarines of Indian Navy. The equipment incorporates advanced DSP technology with inbuilt high grade encryption. With induction of this state-of-the-art equipment, Naval forces will be modernised for secure and higher data capability. The equipment is productionised by BEL-Panchkula with ToT from design agency DEAL DRDO Dehradun.

c) Sarang (12 Nos.) will be installed on Kamov 31 Helicopters of the Indian Navy which intercepts, detects and identifies the Radar emitters comprising state-of-the- art technologies. The project is indigenously designed and developed by DLRL and manufactured by BEL-Hyderabad.

d) Three more projects were signed with Indian Navy – INS-SA, CMS for P17 & P28 and Varuna EW system.

All these are flagship projects showcasing the indigenous design and manufacturing capabilities of Indian Defence industry led by BEL, involving other Public Sectors, Private Sectors and MSMEs. These projects will add another milestone to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan’ and ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government of India.

BEL pays Rs. 224 Crore Second Interim Dividend to Government of India

Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), a Navratna Defence PSU, has paid Interim Dividend of 60% on its paid-up capital to the Government of India for the financial year 2022-23.

Mr Bhanu Prakash Srivastava, Chairman & Managing Director, BEL, presented the second Interim Dividend cheque of Rs. 224,27,53,160.40/- (Rupees Two Hundred Twenty four Crore Twenty Seven Lakh Fifty three Thousand One Hundred and Sixty Point Four Zero Only), payable on the shares held by the President of India, to the Hon’ble Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, at New Delhi on March 27, 2023. BEL has declared 60% percent as Second Interim Dividend (Rs. 0.60/- per share) to its shareholders for the financial year 2022-23.

This is the 20 th consecutive year that BEL is paying Interim Dividend. BEL has paid 60% per cent as First Interim Dividend (Rs. 0.60/- per share) in February 2023 to its shareholders for the financial year 2022-23.

BEL has paid a total dividend of 450% on its paid up capital for the financial year 2021-22.

BEL wins orders worth Rs 4,300 Cr from Indian Army and Indian Navy

Bengaluru / New Delhi, March 24, 2023: The Ministry of Defence (MoD), Govt of India, has signed a contract worth Rs. 3,000 Crs with Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) for supply of Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems for the Indian Army.

The Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems for Indian Army are state-of-the-art with cutting-edge technologies, and have been indigenously developed and manufactured by BEL based on Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), DRDO, design. These integrated systems will be a real force-multiplier and will further enhance the electronic warfare capability of the Indian Army in leaps and bounds.

Further, BEL has also received several contracts totalling up to Rs. 1,300 Crs (approx.) during the last fortnight from the Indian Navy for supply of indigenously developed Fire Control, Gun Fire Control, Surveillance, Tracking, ESM, Sonar Systems, etc.

MoD signs contracts with BEL and Indian Air Force

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has already signed two contracts worth Rs. 3,800 Crs with BEL for supply of Medium Power Radar and Digital Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) for the Indian Air Force.

The Medium Power Radar (Arudhra) for Indian Air Force is a state-of-the-art 4D Surveillance Radar equipped with Active Aperture Phased Array Radar technologies based on Solid State TR Module Transmission. The Radar is indigenously developed and being manufactured by BEL based on Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LDRE), DRDO, design. The above system will further enhance the surveillance capability of the Indian Air Force with the state-of-the-art modern radar technologies including best-in-class ECCM capabilities.

The Digital RWR for fighter aircraft of Indian Air Force has been indigenously designed and developed by Combat Aircraft Systems Development & Integration Centre ( CASDIC), DRDO. The supply of advanced EW Systems will significantly enhance the battle- suitability of IAF fighter aircraft while undertaking operational missions against adversaries.

These are flagship projects showcasing the indigenous design and manufacturing capabilities of the Indian Defence industry led by BEL, involving other public sector and private sector companies and MSMEs. These projects will add another milestone to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives of the Government of India.

BEL donates support kit for ‘Divyangjan’ of Yadgiri & Raichur districts, ambulances for Yadgiri district hospitals

Bengaluru, March 17, 2023: Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) organised separate camps to distribute ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India)-supplied aids and assistive devices worth Rs. 92.5 Lakhs, sponsored by BEL under CSR, at Raichur and Yadgiri, two aspirational districts of Karnataka, on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, to a total of 941 disabled people.

At the function held at the University of Agricultural Sciences Auditorium, Raichur, 554 disabled people (Divyangjan) received support kits while 387 Divyangjan were distributed aids and assistive devices at the ceremony held at Hosalli Road, Yadgiri.

The beneficiaries from both districts were provided with a total number of 1,725 assistive aids and appliances of various categories, including tricycles, motorised tricycles, wheel chairs, CP chairs, crutches, walking sticks, rolators, smart canes, mobile phones, Braille kits for visually impaired, Braille canes, ADL kit, hearing aids, MSIED kits for the intellectually impaired and artificial limbs and calipers.

The identification and registration of Divyangjan coming from 11 taluks — Yadgiri, Gurmitkal, Shahapur, Wadgera, Surapura, Hunasagi, Raichur, Sindhanur, Devadurga, Manvi and Maski were conducted by ALIMCO in co-ordination with the district administrations.

On the occasion, BEL also handed over 7 BLS (Basic Life Support) ambulances to the district hospitals of Yadgiri. BEL has undertaken developmental work in Yadgiri and carried out interventions in the areas of health care, education, rural development and sanitation in 18 villages of three Gram Panchayats in the district.

Mr Mohan R P, General Manager (HR)/BEL-Bangalore, inaugurated the programmes at Raichur and Yadgiri. Mr Amaresh R, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayat, Yadgiri District, and Mr Sharanabasappa Koteppagol, Additional Deputy Commissioner, presided over the Yadgiri function. Mr Chandrashekhar Nayaka L, IAS, Deputy Commissioner & District Magistrate, Raichur District, presided over the programme held in Raichur district. Mr Shashidhar Kurere, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayat, was the chief guest. Ms Aparna Ramesh, Probationary IAS, Dr Shashibhushana H S, Deputy General Manager (CSR)/BEL-Bangalore, and other officials of BEL and Raichur district administration were present.

BEL wins ICC PSE Excellence Awards

Bengaluru, March 17, 2023: Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has won three ICC (Indian Chamber of Commerce) PSE Excellence Awards for the “Company of the Year”, “Inclusivity – Contribution of Women and Differently Abled in PSEs”, as well as Runner Up Award for “Operational Performance Excellence”.

Mr Vikraman N, Executive Director (Radar) & Unit Head/BEL-Ghaziabad, and Mrs Rashmi Kathuria, GM (SCCS)/BEL-Ghaziabad, received the awards on behalf of BEL from Mr Madhukar Gupta, IAS, Commissioner, State Election Commission, Rajasthan, at the 12 th PSE Conclave & Excellence Awards, organised today in New Delhi.

BEL adopts Telangana village, gives a facelift to Govt School & Anganwadi catering to the needy

Bengaluru, March 10, 2023: A Government school and Anganwadi in the Chowdammagutta Thanda village of Farooqnagar Mandal, Mahbubnagar District, Telangana, have got a new lease of life due to the CSR intervention of Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). BEL, which has adopted this village, has rolled out CSR initiatives addressing the basic needs of the villagers and transforming their lives in the process.

The Government Mandal Parishad Primary School and Anganwadi building here, located in the same compound, were in a dilapidated condition with leaking roof and rundown walls. Now, thanks to the intervention of BEL, both the school and anganwadi have got a new compound wall. BEL has constructed new buildings for both the institutions. The new school building has two floors with six classrooms and separate toilets for boys and girls. The Anganwadi has been provided with a kitchen to facilitate mid-day meals and a store room.

Notably, both the institutions cater to the poor, needy and underprivileged students from surrounding areas. Now, around 150 students from Class I to V at the school and around 35 Pre- nursery children availing of the services of the anganwadi can have a conducive learning environment.

Mr Damodar Bhattad, Director (Finance) & CFO, BEL, handed over the newly constructed buildings and other facilities to the District Education Officer, Ranga Reddy District, Telangana. Mr Shiv Nath Yadav, Independent Director, BEL, Mr Srinivas K, General Manager (BEL-Hyderabad), Mr Sreenivas S, Company Secretary, BEL, other senior officers of BEL, Government officials, local people of Chowdammagutta Thanda Village, teachers, parents and students were present.

BEL rolls out inclusive and sustainable CSR interventions for adopted village BEL has adopted Chowdammagutta Thanda village under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan flagship programme of the Government of India.

The Defence major has set up an RO water filtration plant with a provision for storage of drinking water in the village itself. Similarly, bore-wells have been dug and provision made to store the bore-well water in elevated storage tanks for day-to-day use by the villagers. Also, with the establishment of a Community Centre, the villagers now have easy access to water taps and water distribution points within the village. All these initiatives have improved the overall quality of life of the rural population numbering around 500. Earlier, the villagers had to travel around 3-4 Km every day to fetch water.

BEL has been a forerunner among Defence PSUs in promoting societal development. As a corporate entity, BEL actively participates in the social and economic development of communities in which it operates through CSR. BEL’s CSR activities are aimed at inclusive growth, holistic community development and empowerment of marginalised and underprivileged sections.

VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK 2022

In an endevor to increase public awareness about the perils of corruption, BEL is observing vigilance awareness week 2022 from 31/10/2022 to 06/11/2022 with the theme “Corruption free India for a Developed Nation” Vigilance Awareness Week is observed every year during the week in which the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (31st October) falls in. CVC has decided that this year Vigilance Awareness Week would be observed from 31st October to 6th November, 2022 with the theme “Corruption free India for a developed Nation”.

Some of the activities being conducted as part of the VAW 2022 are:

1) Taking of the integrity pledge.

2) Conducting Vigilance awareness programs and competations in schools/colleges

3) Conducting Street Play in public places 4) Conducting Walkathon, cyclethon ,etc

5) Dissiminating information in the form of pamplets,emails , posters etc and creating awareness among various stake holders including employees, contract workers, our suppliers , etc.,

6) Conducting Workshops & seminars for enhancing relevent knowledge.

7) Conducting various vigilance releated competitions among Employees (including trainees and contract workers).

Also, In a move towards inculcating the true spirit of participative vigilance, a three-month campaign (16th August, 2022 till 15th November, 2022) with six different preventive vigilance measures are being taken up as focus areas . The different Preventive Vigilance cum internal housekeeping activities being taken up as focal areas include the following:

a) Property Management;

b) Management of Assets;

c) Record Management;

d) Technological Initiatives including Website Maintenance & updation

e) Updation of guidelines / circulars / manuals wherever found necessary, and

f) Disposal of complaints outstanding as of 15/08/2022.

NEW CVO HAS TAKEN CHARGE AT BEL

Mr Shrikant Walgad, an IAS officer of the Haryana Cadre, took charge as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), on April 8, 2019.

Mr Shrikant Walgad completed his BE in Electronics & Communications from the Karnataka Regional Engineering College (now NITK Surathkal), Mangalore University, in 1986. He also holds a Post Graduate Degree in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM) from IIM-Bangalore.

On completion of his IAS training (1991 batch), Mr Shrikant Walgad was posted as Sub Divisional Magistrate of Ellenabad/Bhiwani, Haryana. He subsequently worked in various capacities, acquiring rich experience in district administration, law and order, rural and urban development and land revenue management while serving as Additional District Collector of Sirsa/Sonepat and Jhajjar, Haryana; and District Collector of Jhajjar and Bhiwani, Haryana, and Kodagu, Karnataka. As Registrar Magistrate of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana, he gained first-hand experience in the areas of higher education and human resource development. During his tenure as Joint Secretary, Haryana Sector, he handled general administration and personal management.

Mr Shrikant Walgad also served in different areas of Haryana Urban Development administration, like Urban Development, Rural Development, Election management, Housing and Environment.

BEL hands over food distribution vessels to Akshaya Patra Foundation

Bengaluru, March 9, 2023: BEL has handed over 825 vessels for food distribution to Akshaya Patra Foundation for the NGO’s Bellary kitchen today as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.

BEL has supported Akshay Patra Foundation’s Mid-day Meal scheme in the past by donating food distribution vans with essential food containers for their kitchens located in Mangalgiri in Andhra Pradesh and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh.

BEL has been a forerunner among Defence PSUs in promoting societal development. As a corporate entity, BEL actively participates in the social and economic development of communities in which it operates through CSR. BEL’s CSR activities are aimed at inclusive growth, holistic community development and empowerment of marginalised and underprivileged sections.
